Privacy Policy
Effective date: March 28, 2026
Prayer Groups ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data when you use the Prayer Groups app and website (prayergroups.co).
1. Information We Collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and optionally a profile photo. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the name and email address those services share with us.
Profile information. You may choose a username. If you enable discoverability, other users can find you by your username or email address.
Prayer content. We store the prayer requests you create, including any text and optional drawing annotations. Each request is associated with your account and the group it belongs to.
Group and social data. We store the prayer groups you create or join, group membership, invite codes, and connection relationships between users.
Device tokens. We collect Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) tokens to deliver push notifications to your device.
Usage data. Firebase Analytics collects anonymized usage events (such as sign-up, sign-in, and feature interactions) to help us understand how the app is used and improve it over time.
Local storage. The app uses your device's local storage (SharedPreferences) to cache settings and widget data. This data stays on your device.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account
- To enable prayer groups, sharing, and social connections
- To send push notifications for new prayers and group activity (you can disable these in your device settings)
- To power the home-screen prayer widget
- To allow other users to find and connect with you, if you enable discoverability
- To improve the app through aggregated, anonymized analytics
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as described below:
- With other users. Prayer requests you add to a group are visible to other members of that group. Your display name and profile photo are visible to users you are connected with or who are in the same group. Your username may be visible if you enable discoverability.
- With service providers. We use Google Firebase for authentication, database storage, push notifications, analytics, and hosting. Google processes data on our behalf subject to their privacy terms.
- As required by law. We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request.
4. Third-Party Services
Prayer Groups uses the following third-party services, each of which has its own privacy practices:
- Firebase (Google) — authentication, database, push notifications, analytics, and hosting
- Sign in with Apple — optional authentication provider
- Google Sign-In — optional authentication provider
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data and prayer content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal information and prayer content are removed from our systems. Some data may remain in backups for a short period before being purged.
6. Your Choices
- Push notifications. You can disable push notifications at any time in your device's notification settings.
- Discoverability. You can turn off discoverability in app settings so other users cannot find you by username or email.
- Account deletion. You can delete your account from within the app. This will permanently remove your account and associated data.
7. Children's Privacy
Prayer Groups is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it.
8. Security
We use industry-standard security measures, including Firebase's built-in security, encrypted authentication tokens, and cryptographic nonces for sign-in flows. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the effective date above. Continued use of Prayer Groups after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
